Rocking to Fantasia

Grandma Wienke brought over Fantasia for Savannah to watch last week, it just sat on the shelf until the weekend when I needed a few minutes to get breakfast ready. I popped the dvd in and after a couple minutes of whining because it wasn’t Signing Time the music started. Savvy was mesmerized! She hopped onto her monkey rocker and rocked like crazy in a Fantasia trance – until the in between parts with talking when she would whine at me like I broke it. I can’t blame her for the trance – there is so much going on the screen it’s almost seizure inducing! Ok, that might be also partly to blame on us since the TV is big..

Slime!!!

I’ve been looking around the internet for toddler activity ideas that are easy and can be done with things around the house. There are tons of them (not that it’s surprising) – I have pinned a few blogs from stay a home moms and homeschooling moms with fabulous ideas. Even better, they are easy and honestly no-brainers if I had a creative mind like these women. I figured I’d start out easy so while Savannah was napping on Sunday I got a couple ready for her.

The first was to blow up a balloon – we have many left over from a previous party – and hang it so that it’s just above Savannah’s head. The idea is they can swing at it to improve motor skills. Sounds great and easy, right? I hung it in a doorway with painters tape on the ceiling and excitedly waited for her to wake up from her nap. Well, this little one saw it, got super excited then grabbed it and pulled it down. She then proceeded to run around the house with it and Melanie in tow.. Ooops.. We tried tying it to a chandelier but she got it down again. At least she had fun! No pictures since she didn’t stand still but here’s a random picture of my two loves playing video games. She loves Diablo :)

The next one I tried was slime.. Oh yes, ooey gooey messy slime! I found a recipe online for edible slime in case she stuck it in her mouth – just condensed milk, cornstarch and food coloring.. Cooked it up on the stove while she slept and dumped it into a big bowl when it cooled to room temperature. To make it more interesting I tossed a couple plastic cookie cutters in the bowl. This one was a sure hit!!

I tried to get her to show Marc her hands so he could get a good picture of them (I had slime on my hands) but it turned into clapping.. Which ended up with slime on the walls, pantry door, cabinet and island.. She was crazy laughing.. like a villian in a Disney movie.. I found it hilarious! (the slime comes off with just plain old warm water)

And cleanup of the little one.. The easiest way was to strip her down and put her in the sink.. Which she enjoyed more than Daddy lol

Da Slide!

While we were in Virginia we took some walks and ran into a small park. Savannah got really excited and tried to break out of her stroller.. Luckily she was strapped in or else I have a feeling there would’ve been a face plant in the mud. Once at the playset I let her loose and she started giggling and running around to check it all out.

Once she found the slide she stood at the bottom of it wanting to go down. It took a few minutes to convince her that she had to come to the other side to be able to get to the top. After one time up the stairs, through the tunnel, and across the platform and up the second set of stairs to the slide with me guiding her she was a pro.

It's a Boy!

We had another Ultrasound on Thursday and the tech confirmed what the last one appeared - we're having a boy!

We have a couple names from before we knew Savannah was a girl (Jasper, Parker) a couple added on in case this one was a boy (Jackson, Lincoln) and Marc's most recent addition of Archer. Like the TV show that he loves. Which means I should've been able to use Lorelei but I guess we're past that.. Maybe..

I had also seen a nursery I liked for a boy and when I showed Marc last night he liked it: http://mamawhimsy.com/our-boy-nursery-reveal/. The blue will be close but a little different since I'll use the blue of Savannah's ceiling (only used maybe a third of it for her room).

Of course, the first step for his room will be to clean it out since its been my dumping ground for all of the toys and clothes Savvy has grown out of!

Sav's Room

I don't think I took pictures  Sav's room after decals went up. Because of the light the decals don't show well and I realized after I took the pictures they are all slightly different colors from exposure but it shows the general idea. :-)

We Love Messy Babies!

Savvy really likes finger (and hand) painting. So much that the stuff is hidden from her view so we don't have multiple melt downs every day when we can't do it.  She mainly paints with her whole hand - her teacher says she does the same at school - but this afternoon I showed her using just one finger and she mimicked for a while.

I grabbed a couple stamps to try but they did not work well with the finger paints. She did great with the stamps, they just slipped on the finger paint paper so they were just a big smudge. Will have to get some kid safe ink to try them again.

Laundry Helper

Savannah was real interested in Marc doing laundry tonight so he recruited her to help. She not only helped put the clothes in the dryer from the washer she started demanding more. She got so into it she lost her Snack cup in there - thankfully rescued before running!
Now what other chores can I get her to do for us??
